Texas House Democrats are urging Gov. Greg Abbott to call a special session to increase public school funding, while Abbott is criticizing them for opposing legislation last year that tied increased funding to his pet project — school vouchers. The Austin American-Statesman reported the Democrats sent a letter, written by Rep. Jon Rosenthal, D-Houston, calling for a 30-day special session focused on both increasing per-student funding and investing more in school safety. “Our public schools are the bedrock of our communities, and it’s imperative we provide them with the resources they need to thrive,” Rosenthal said.

My Blue Cross insurance once denied my claims for anesthesia for a surgery that involved wiring my bones together. The denial was an obvious mistake.

Scripture Verse of the Week
Psalm 85:11-13 “Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.”

You are loved so greatly
Hello, Happy Wednesday! Today I want to talk about being happy with yourself! Especially in today’s world we do a lot of comparison. Thanks to social media! Oh they have a better car, or they have a big house, or I’m not good enough because I don’t have those things. Ummmm…. NO! God created you beautiful; everyone looks differently and that’s ok! Just because they have a bigger house doesn’t make you any less than them! It’s ok!

Finding Your Way Home
My homeless friend appeared weak as she sipped on a Gatorade. She turned to me. “I’ve tried to stay dry, but it gets so humid lately.”

It’s not what you wear, but that you’re there
It’s not what you wear, it’s that you’re there. Let’s face it. It’s true for us all. We have that day at work where your clothes just feel too tight all day and all you want to do is get out of them and into something more comfortable when you get home. Most days, that can be the baggiest pair of sweatpants or pajama pants or shortest shorts you own. And don’t forget that ratty T-shirt that you’ve owned for who knows how many years and has so many holes that it wouldn’t even make a functional cleaning rag. But you wouldn’t even think about throwing it out because it would be like throwing away your child’s favorite toy. A tragedy of epic proportions!

As the runoff for Texas House of Representatives District 1 nears, I feel impressed to do something I have never done before. I feel I must publicly endorse Gary VanDeaver to be re-elected to serve our district in Austin. I feel he is the candidate who truly has the best interests of the residents of this district in his heart as he represents us. Many of the statements made by his opponent show clearly that he is concerned more for Austin and large cities than District 1. His endorsements are more Austin-centered than Rural East Texas centered. I believe Gary VanDeaver represents East Texas values. He understands what is needed here for our area to flourish. As a person who has given his life to serve the children of our region as an educator and school administrator before being elected to the Texas House, he understands that the success of local rural school districts is more likely to come not through what will serve urban and suburban district and not through taking money out of districts already suffering due to financial constraints but through decisions that reinforce local values and strengths.

The growth of industrial- scale users of power could strain the Texas power grid, ERCOT’s chief announced last week. The Dallas Morning News reported Pablo Vegas, the agency’s CEO, said bitcoin miners and artificial intelligence data centers going in across the state, as well as industrial growth in the Permian Basin, could create the need for a massive buildup of power transmission lines in the future.

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
