A gift of cash (enough to make a difference) was quietly given to me, with the idea that I might pass it on to someone who needs it or help someone. This little mom with three children endured a hard season when their home burned down, a rental, but needless to say, they were without a place to stay. So they’d spent these past months trying to save for a deposit, and I’d heard she’d found a new home to rent. The mom also received a new battery for her car, thanks to another dear couple, and she’s now been blessed with a job. Growing up, it was pretty easy to identify who your neighbor was. People rarely moved, so learning everyone in a 2-3 block radius was pretty easy. I would grow up with kids, know their siblings, parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Then you had neighbors from your church and parents would know people they worked with.
