TRIPLE DIPPER--Archer bags three bucks in three different counties, permission hunts pay off
We’re headed down the home stretch of another Texas deer season. While rutting activity is waning across much of the state, it’s just now about to get cranked up down south. Some of the year’s best hunting in the Brush Country and Mexico always happens around the Christmas rush. 12/20/2023 10:00 AM

The Birth of Christ
The Birth of Christ
Matthew 1:18-25 - This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about : His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. 12/20/2023 10:00 AM

A total of $18 billion in property tax cuts were approved by more than 80% of voters in the November general election and should be reflected in property tax bills that are due by Jan. 31. The cuts come in the form of increased home exemptions, lower school district rates, and limiting the amount property appraisals can rise. 12/20/2023 10:00 AM

What Christmas means to me
What Christmas means to me
Hi Everyone! Merry CHRISTMAS! I hope you’re well! My week has been GREAT. I hope the same for you! Today I would like to talk about what Christmas means to me. Christmas means a whole lot of things for all sorts of people. Christmas means spending time with family and friends, pursuing joy and peace. Some people might have a grand party. Others bake all sorts of goodies. Some it might mean decorating and hanging lights. These are all great things and there’s nothing wrong with them, but what Christmas truly means is the birth of JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD! Christmas is all about celebrating and commemorating the birth of JESUS! GOD sent JESUS that HOLY day to save us from death itself! Remember that this Christmas season! I also would like to say The First Baptist Church of DeKalb is having a candlelight Christmas Eve service and I would love to see you there check the church Facebook page for extra information! My mom’s favorite Christmas song is “Oh Holy Night” but it has to be Nat King Cole’s version. In that song it says, “Long lay the world in sin and error pining Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn” I have been saved so Christmas means so much to me. Because of Jesus my soul does feel its worth and I do rejoice on what God did for me. 12/20/2023 10:00 AM
Don’t wish away Christmas
Don’t wish away Christmas
There’s always that question, “How did you get through this?” Now, the ‘this’ in your life can or could be the loss of a loved one. Or you lost a friend. Or the words cancer. Or the phrase divorce crept into your life. Or the fact your family might not be the reflection of perfection that jumps at you from the posts and photos portrayed on Facebook or in other areas. The conflict of wishing for a great life shoots at you like a star blazing across your heart. And, as you know, pain and sorrow and hurting days land like a sleigh of dread and you wish Christmas was over. 12/20/2023 10:00 AM
Avoid tapping into retirement savings early
Avoid tapping into retirement savings early
If you want to make a big purchase, such as a new car or a piece of property, or you were faced with a large, unexpected expense, such as a major home or auto repair, would you have the funds readily available? If not, you might look at what may be your biggest pool of money — your 401(k) or IRA. But should you tap into these accounts well before you retire? 12/20/2023 10:00 AM
And now, the rest of the story
And now, the rest of the story
Well, we had another one of those things that don’t happen here, happen here. By now most of you have heard that there was a bomb scare at New Boston High School last Wednesday. If you had not heard, now you have. It was another one of those days that just is not supposed to happen around here. It was another day that seems absurd when you talk to folks who have been here a while, because it was so out of the realm of normalcy. But yet, it happened, and those things that are not supposed to happen here… seem to be happening here more and more often. 12/20/2023 10:00 AM
