Biographical Age: 65 My wife Pam and I have lived in New Boston for 18 years. Together we have daughter Kacey and her husband, Ryan, daughter Katelyn and her husband Cedric. We are also grandparents to Susanna, Clara, and Nevill. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education, a Master of Science in General Agriculture and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration I am the currently elected Texas representative for District 1 and am a retired educator. Johnnie Helen Matthews, age 90 of New Boston, Texas passed away in her home on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Mrs. Matthews was born August 6, 1933 in New Boston, Texas to Dennis and Nellie Mae Jackson. She was a retired educator with New Boston ISD, member of Polly Chapel Baptist Church, Bowie County Teachers Association and is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bryant ‘Matt’ Matthews, a daughter, Lisa Rochelle Spears, a brother, Curtis Alvin Jackson and a grandson Kenneth Bernard Spears, Jr. and a son in law, Donnie Kendrick She is survived by her daughters, Ethel Renee Chopp of New Boston, Texas, Karen Denise Forte and husband Kevin of New Boston, Texas, grandchildren, Bryant Keith Roberts and Kiaundra Nichelle Walker (George Sr.) of New Boston, Texas, Denisha LaDawn Forte of Bedford, Texas, great grandchildren, KyErica Rochelle Wade, George Damien Walker, Jr. (D.J.), T.J. Northeast Texas voters had the opportunity to meet and speak with the candidates asking for their votes in the upcoming primary elections at Church on the Rock in Texarkana last Wednesday night. In attendance were Texas Rep. Gary Vandeaver, Chris Spencer and Dale Huls for Texas House of Representatives District 1; Jamie Kohlmann, Chad Green for Republican nomination for Texas State Board of Education District 12; Adam Huggins and incumbent Kathy Carter for Bowie County Republican Party Chair Precinct 19; and Dillon Gardner for Bowie County Constable Precinct 3. The event was the first candidate forum in Bowie County which introduced the candidates in contested races to potential voters. Gardner’s opponent, incumbent Jeff Estes, and incumbent Pam Little for Republican nomination for Texas State Board of Education District 12 were not in attendance. 02/07/2024 10:00 AM

Officials from Farmers Bank & Trust, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Texarkana College, and the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana were on hand January 25th as the Farmers Bank Foundation presented a check to the university with funds raised at the 2023 Distinguished Speaker Series event. New public safety program in Bowie County for families living with Dementia and other cognitive disorders
A partnership between the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, the Texarkana, Texas Police Department, and the Alzheimer’s Alliance Tri-State Area will offer a Project Lifesaver program that will aid families of those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, as well as Autism and Down Syndrome. A&M-Texarkana Announces Record Number of Students for Spring Semester
Texas A&M University- Texarkana has announced record enrollment for a spring semester with the academic term that began on January 16, 2024. The enrollment for the spring term registers 5% higher than the spring term in 2023. University officials believe the increase in enrollment is due to several academic partnerships recently formed by the university as well as new scholarship initiatives that make attending A&M-Texarkana more affordable. 02/07/2024 10:00 AM
