NBISD puts students first during bomb threat hoax
New Boston residents had yet another scare of violence last week as a bomb threat was called in to local officials claiming that there was an explosive device inside New Boston High School.

Wanda Mae Sheridan, age 91 of New Boston, Texas passed away in her home on December 11, 2023. She was born to Ernie and Opal Green in Foreman, Arkansas on December 3, 1932. She had 2 siblings, one brother Harold D. Green of Ashdown and sister Francis Ann Braley of Simms, Texas. She graduated from Foreman High School in 1950. She was the Homecoming Sweetheart.

Oktoberfest Committee presents $25k back to community
As part of the spirit of giving at Christmas in DeKalb, the DeKalb Oktobertfest Committee celebrated the season by giving out checks to all of the organizations and groups that helped make this year’s Oktoberfest festival a success. In all, $25,000 in checks were given back to the community. Merry Christmas.

Region 8 ESC Announces 2024 Student Leadership Conference
Region 8 Educational Service Center is pleased to announce the upcoming 2024 Student Leadership Conference scheduled for January 10, 2024. This event, hosted at the Region 8 Education Service Center, will bring together student leaders from over 40 school districts across Northeast Texas. The conference aims to the next generation of leaders through a day of engaging activities, including a captivating keynote address, student-led breakout sessions, networking opportunities, and professional development sessions for accompanying educators. This year’s event will showcase the successful leadership program of Texarkana Independent School District (TISO). The keynote speaker for the event is Mr. John Thomas Borowitz, a 2022 graduate of Texas High School (Texarkana ISO), currently pursuing his education at Harvard University. Mr. Borowitz will share insights and experiences that have shaped his journey as a young leader.
