New boutique brings style, customer service to downtown Hooks

What started out as a small dress rental business has grown into a customer and fashion centered women and girls’ boutique. Laura Edwards, of De Kalb, Texas, opened Knuckleheads N Prissy Tails in 2011 in an attempt to satisfy an itch to get back into the pageant world.

Having her daughter do pageants her whole life, but stopping once she decided to go to college, Laura missed the glitzy world. She decided to start helping her niece participate in pageants, but had a hard time finding affordable yet beautiful pageant dresses. The idea was then brought to fruition in 2011 when she decided to help her hometown beauty queens find pageant, prom and homecoming dresses.

Realizing that the dresses are mainly a seasonal business, Laura decided to broaden her horizon so that she could stay at home with a grandbaby she had on the way at the time.

Offering clothing and accessories items, Laura spent her days handpicking merchandise to bring to her loyal, local customers.

Since then, the boutique has grown exponentially, even to the point where they have their own lines of women and girls clothing that they describe as, “the latest fashion trends at affordable prices and outstanding quality.”

While Laura knew the boutique was growing, she did not realize how fast though until she had a knock on her door from someone wanting to go shopping. After that fateful day, the realization of the need for a storefront became obvious, so the boutique found a new home in Texarkana.

After some time, they made a move to a location on Richmond Road, but soon found issues with the daily traffic becoming too much of a hassle for the clientele. To make things easier for her customers, who she always strives to put first, the business got settled into a new spot in Central Mall, where they stayed for several years.

Missing the one-on-one customer connection and not having complete control over the daily operations of her business, Laura decided she wanted to make another move, this time back to her roots.

Now, Knuckleheads N Prissy Tails, also known as KnP Boutique, the award- winning boutique has landed right in the middle of Hooks, Texas with a storefront on Main Street.
When speaking about her favorite aspect of owning KnP, Laura quickly stated, “The people. My customers, the kids...we know about 80% of our customers on a personal basis.”

Laura’s right-hand woman, Kelli Williams, who has been with KnP since the beginning, agrees with Laura in that the customers are their first priority and their favorite part of the store. Ensuring their customers have a pleasant experience, Laura and Kelli work hard to meet and exceed expectations.

The store currently sells women’s (sizes small through 2x-large) and girl’s clothing (sizes newborn through 14/16) and accessories, as well as rentals for prom, homecoming, wedding, and pageant dresses. They cater to sizes newborn up to 5/6x and have a wide selection of dresses in stock.

Patrons can visit KnP Boutique at 106 Main Street in Hooks, open 11 am - 6 pm Monday through Friday and 11 am - 2 pm on Saturday.
