Lady Lions, Lady Pirates grab big district wins

District softball is coming down to the wire now and every game is a big one down the stretch.

The New Boston lady Lions got back in the win column Tuesday night with their 15-1 win over the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas.

New Boston ace hurler Lauren “Loh” Hurst had her good stuff working on the hill as she allowed just one run on three hits and struck out six in the contest.

With the bats, senior Haley McAlexander took the lead with a pair of hits and three RBI’s. Abrianna Scott also had a pair of RBI’s for the Lady Lions and Victoria Scott was on fore with the stick going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Three others also pitched in with RBI hits in the game including Hurst, Eliza Upchurch and senior Emma Holland.


The James Bowie Lady Pirates used two big innings to edge Bloomburg 7-6 last night, with four runs in the 5th inning being just enough to take the win.

It was a good game for Lady Pirates hurler Addy Hammonds as the notched the win on the hill and helped her own cause with the bat. Hammonds was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI’s in the game and went the distance on the hill allowing six runs on six hits and struck out five.

Marlie Rogers also had a couple of RBI’s for James Bowie and Gracie Brown, Alyssa Adcock and Addison Hicks each added an RBI.


In other Tuesday night softball play, the DeKalb Lady Bears came up short against the Queen City Lady Bulldogs, falling 13-11 despite a two-run blast from Makaila Daniels and 16 hits in the game.

The Hooks Lady Hornets lost to a tough Atlanta Lady Rabbs 11-1, and McLeod knocked off the Maud Lady Cardinals 17-4.
