Candidates speak about the issues at Bowie County forum
Northeast Texas voters had the opportunity to meet and speak with the candidates asking for their votes in the upcoming primary elections at Church on the Rock in Texarkana last Wednesday night. In attendance were Texas Rep. Gary Vandeaver, Chris Spencer and Dale Huls for Texas House of Representatives District 1; Jamie Kohlmann, Chad Green for Republican nomination for Texas State Board of Education District 12; Adam Huggins and incumbent Kathy Carter for Bowie County Republican Party Chair Precinct 19; and Dillon Gardner for Bowie County Constable Precinct 3. The event was the first candidate forum in Bowie County which introduced the candidates in contested races to potential voters. Gardner’s opponent, incumbent Jeff Estes, and incumbent Pam Little for Republican nomination for Texas State Board of Education District 12 were not in attendance. 02/07/2024 10:00 AM

Officials from Farmers Bank & Trust, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Texarkana College, and the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana were on hand January 25th as the Farmers Bank Foundation presented a check to the university with funds raised at the 2023 Distinguished Speaker Series event. The donation of over $73,000 goes towards scholarships to students graduating from Texarkana College and the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana who are continuing their education at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. 02/07/2024 10:00 AM

New public safety program in Bowie County for families living with Dementia and other cognitive disorders
A partnership between the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, the Texarkana, Texas Police Department, and the Alzheimer’s Alliance Tri-State Area will offer a Project Lifesaver program that will aid families of those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, as well as Autism and Down Syndrome. Texas A&M University- Texarkana has announced record enrollment for a spring semester with the academic term that began on January 16, 2024. The enrollment for the spring term registers 5% higher than the spring term in 2023. TPWD euthanizes research facility deer herd prior to confirmation by national lab
Just when you thought the story behind the discovery of chronic wasting disease in a penned deer at Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Kerr Wildlife Management Area’s 23-acre research facility couldn’t get any more unfortunate, it did. The good news is the 14-month old buck that tested “suspect positive” for CWD last fall was not infected with the disease after all. The bad news is TPWD staff opted to euthanize the facility’s entire research herd before the test results were confirmed by the National Veterinary Service Laboratory (NVSL) in Ames, Iowa. 02/07/2024 10:00 AM
