LANELL CHRISTINE SMITH
Lanell Christine Smith age 93 of New Boston, Texas passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Autumn Winds Assisted Living in New Boston, Texas. Mrs. Smith was born November 29, 1930 in Bowie County, Texas to Curt Wetz and Willie Mae Chalker Morris. She was a Baptist, retired from Red River Army Depot and is proceeded in death by her husband Herald A. Smith, and son Rusty Smith. Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Mark and Jill Smith of New Boston, Texas, one grandson and his wife, Justin and Katie Smith of New Boston, Texas, great grandchildren MaKenzie Mae Smith and Austin Allen Smith of New Boston, Texas. One sister Mary Miller of New Boston, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Autumn Winds and Heritage Hospice for the care that she received in her final days. The Austin American- Statesman reported Abbott has ordered the Public Utility Commission to conduct an immediate study into why the Houston area has again been hit by widespread power outages.

Biologists say low oxygen levels spurred fish kill at Northeast Texas power plant lake
Several videos recently surfaced on social media depicting a significant number of dead fish, including dozens of largemouth bass, floating dead or struggling near the surface around hydrilla beds and lily pad stands at Lake Welsh, a 1,269- acre power plant lake in Titus County. Several of the bass look to be in the 6-8 pound range.
