Interstate 30 closures scheduled
Beginning this Monday night, February 12, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., crews began working on repairs at the westbound I-30/I-369/ US 59 interchange. This nighttime work requires closing the main lanes of I-30 from approximately Mile 222 (between Summerhill Road and Cowhorn Creek) to Mile 220 (between University and Kings Highway). The westbound frontage road will remain open. All I-30 westbound traffic will be exited at Exit 220B/Richmond Road exit. Traffic will re-enter westbound I-30 between University and Kings Highway. Traffic traveling to I-369S/US 59S will travel the westbound frontage road to University and take the westbound to eastbound U-Turn bridge to the eastbound frontage road to the I-369/US 59 entrance ramp. Nighttime road closures for this work are also scheduled for Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16. Inclement weather or other unforeseen issues could cause delays or changes in the work schedule.

Biographical Age: 65 My wife Pam and I have lived in New Boston for 18 years. Together we have daughter Kacey and her husband, Ryan, daughter Katelyn and her husband Cedric. We are also grandparents to Susanna, Clara, and Nevill. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education, a Master of Science in General Agriculture and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration I am the currently elected Texas representative for District 1 and am a retired educator. I taught agriculture at Avery High School; served as principal at Avery Elementary School and Rivercrest High School; and served as superintendent of schools at Rivercrest Independent School District and New Boston Independent School District.

Candidates speak about the issues at Bowie County forum
Northeast Texas voters had the opportunity to meet and speak with the candidates asking for their votes in the upcoming primary elections at Church on the Rock in Texarkana last Wednesday night. In attendance were Texas Rep. Gary Vandeaver, Chris Spencer and Dale Huls for Texas House of Representatives District 1; Jamie Kohlmann, Chad Green for Republican nomination for Texas State Board of Education District 12; Adam Huggins and incumbent Kathy Carter for Bowie County Republican Party Chair Precinct 19; and Dillon Gardner for Bowie County Constable Precinct 3. The event was the first candidate forum in Bowie County which introduced the candidates in contested races to potential voters. Gardner’s opponent, incumbent Jeff Estes, and incumbent Pam Little for Republican nomination for Texas State Board of Education District 12 were not in attendance.

Farmers Bank Foundation Makes Donation to A&M-Texarkana, Announces Speaker for the 2024 Distinguished Speaker Series
Officials from Farmers Bank & Trust, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Texarkana College, and the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana were on hand January 25th as the Farmers Bank Foundation presented a check to the university with funds raised at the 2023 Distinguished Speaker Series event. The donation of over $73,000 goes towards scholarships to students graduating from Texarkana College and the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana who are continuing their education at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

A&M-Texarkana Announces New Educational Partnership with TEXAR Federal Credit Union
Texas A&M University- Texarkana and TEXAR Federal Credit Union have entered a new academic partnership that will allow TEXAR employees to take courses at the university at a discounted rate. The partnership was officially launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Febmary 1, 2024, at TEXAR Federal Credit Union, 2301 Richmond Rd. in Texarkana.

New public safety program in Bowie County for families living with Dementia and other cognitive disorders
A partnership between the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, the Texarkana, Texas Police Department, and the Alzheimer’s Alliance Tri-State Area will offer a Project Lifesaver program that will aid families of those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, as well as Autism and Down Syndrome. On December 14th and 15th, the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and Texarkana, TX Police Department completed two days of Project Lifesaver training.

A&M-Texarkana Announces Record Number of Students for Spring Semester
Texas A&M University- Texarkana has announced record enrollment for a spring semester with the academic term that began on January 16, 2024. The enrollment for the spring term registers 5% higher than the spring term in 2023. University officials believe the increase in enrollment is due to several academic partnerships recently formed by the university as well as new scholarship initiatives that make attending A&M-Texarkana more affordable.

Bowie County Master Gardeners & Texas A&M – Texarkana Present: “Planning Your Garden”
The Bowie County Master Gardeners and Texas A&M-Texarkana’s Extended Education and Community Development Department will host the program “Planning Your Garden” on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The class is free and open to the public. The class will take place in the University Building, Room 326. No reservation is required to attend. The program will be presented by Dr. Brian Triplett, Bowie County Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources.
