Learn, eat, grow and go at New Boston Elementary
Third grade students at New Boston Elementary are participating in the Learn, Eat, Grow, and Go! program through the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office. The program is designed to teach students the basic needs of plants, how to care for plants, and how to use plants for human benefit. With the help of these adults, students learn how to garden, harvest, and cook plants for tasty recipes. They even sample some of the things they have grown. Recently, spinach quesadillas were tried. One student commented that it was the best quesadilla she had ever had! Others thought chicken needed to be added. Students look forward to visits from the Agrilife Office and get excited when they see them on campus. This is just another way we make learning fun at New Boston Elementary. 10/09/2024 09:03 AM

I grew up a stone’s throw away from the Sulphur River in northern Franklin County. As a child I was always struck by how wild and untouched it seemed to be. With the exception of roads that crossed it out of necessity, it looked unchanged from centuries ago. 10/09/2024 09:03 AM
Community
Community
There is a lot to be said about the value of community. Whether it be a resounding response to a local fundraiser, a meal chain for a family in need, or a local church making beds for kids, the word “community” around here hits just a little harder. 10/09/2024 09:03 AM
A moment in the parking lot
A moment in the parking lot
The bearded man stopped me in the shelter’s parking lot. His face seemed weighed down by troubles, or so it seemed, maybe those he could no longer carry alone. As he approached, he began to unload his story, each word falling heavy. He hoped I held the answer he sought—a bus ticket to another town. 10/09/2024 09:02 AM
