Going Old School - A look at some good structure spots always worth a few casts
I’ve been fortunate to visit some of the very best largemouth bass lakes in the world, and I’m thankful that so many of those trips came at a time when fishing was still fishing. Not the video game it has become for so many since the evolution of high-tech electronics like forward-facing sonar, monster screens and other game changing goodies.

Local schools learn about fire safety from firefighters
Schools around the area have been treated to some very special visitors in the last week as fire departments from all around have been working hard to teach young lives about fire safety. Pictured are members of the DeKalb Fire Department as they visited Malta Elementary last week. Students at Malta learned about stop, drop and roll and got to meet the local firefighters and their special guest Sparky the Fire Dog.

Freedom isn’t free
The “Up with People” touring singing groups were popular when we grew up in the sixties. One of their songs, probably simply subtitled “Freedom Isn’t Free,” still quickly comes to mind when we see or read about anti-American protests. The chorus said, “Freedom isn’t free, freedom isn’t free. You’ve got to pay the price, you’ve got to sacrifice for your liberty.”

RUBY ROSE BRITZMAN DERRICK
Ruby Rose Britzman Derrick was born Friday August 13, 1937 to Alex J. and Vivian Durnell Britzman in Houston, Missouri. Youngest of six, Ruby grew up on a farm in the White Rock community. As is typical living on a farm, Ruby had assigned chores and she became a member of the White Rock 4-H Club.
