During the gathering of data for the 2023-2028 5-year Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), information about the HOME Grant from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) in the North East Texas/ ATCOG region came to light. In the past five years seven of our nine counties have participated in the HOME program. This program is not a competitive grant process! Plans in progress for updated Texas side animal holding facility
Plans are in progress for updates to the Texarkana, Texas animal holding facility. The city is working alongside architects with Shelter Planners of American out of Arlington, Texas to generate floor plans to renovate the current building. TC rekindles partnership with Texarkana Regional Airport to open aviation program
At the Texarkana College Trustees meeting on Monday, college president Dr. Jason Smith reported that TC’s Aviation Program is on track for the Fall 2024 start-up of an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic training program. The program is in partnership with the Texarkana Regional Airport and will be located on the airport grounds. Paul Mehrlich, Executive Director of Aviation for the Airport, attended the meeting and provided an update on the partnership and need for the program. 09/05/2023 11:00 AM

The Bowie County Master Gardeners and Texas A&M-Texarkana’s Extended Education and Community Development Department will host the program “Growing Fruits, Berries, and a Nut” on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The class is free and open to the public. 09/05/2023 11:00 AM

Lady Hornets earn Been There, Dug That championship
The Hooks Lady Hornets hosted the Been There, Dug That tournament last week and when the dust had settled on all of the pool play and bracket games they saw themselves as the tournament champion. Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week
This week’s Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week is 19-year-old Trenton Gibson. Trenton is from New Boston and a 2023 graduate of New Boston High School. The 2022-2023 season was his first year in the Special Olympics. He participates in both the spring track and field events as well as fall softball. Trenton loves hanging out with his friends and family and going to the movies. He also loves to play video games, especially Destiny. And he’s looking forward to applying for his first job soon to be able to buy his favorite things. Trenton said his favorite part of participating in the games is being able to make memories with his friends and teammates. He is already looking forward to the 2023-2024 games. 08/29/2023 11:00 AM

Hornets, Pirates, Cardinals and Dragons all start with wins
The Hooks Hornets start each year with the same goals to set the program up for success in the season, win game one, have a winning record going into district play and win the district championship and make the playoffs. The Hornets accomplished the first goal, knocking off the once top ranked Harmony Eagles in what was an emotional rally that showed the heart and determination of the Hornets. 08/29/2023 11:00 AM
