VanDeaver, Spencer debate as May 28 runoff election date looms
Early voting began Monday morning in one of the most contentious battles for elected office that Northeast Texas has seen in many years. The runoff election for Texas House District 1 between incumbent State Rep. Gary VanDeaver and Cass County businessman Chris Spencer has been heated to say the least. Texas House District 1 includes Bowie, Cass, Lamar, Morris and Red River Counties.

Storms bring minor damage but thousands without power in Bowie County
Severe storms erupted across Texas and several other Plains states over the weekend causing widespread destruction, especially in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. While Texas was not totally spared from seeing destructive damage, Bowie County by and large escaped the wrath of Mother Friday and saw little damage. A tornado warning Friday night did send residents to local storm shelters, and there were trees down in places, the major issue in Bowie County was power outages.
