With Republicans regaining majority control of the Senate, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is making his bid to become that chamber’s majority leader. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, had previously announced he would step down as party leader. Republicans will hold at least a 53-45 edge in January, with Senate races in two states still undecided as of Friday morning. 11/13/2024 10:04 AM
Worn-Out Bible on the Dashboard
Worn-Out Bible on the Dashboard
I was out on the streets recently, with scripture cards in one hand and a few food gift cards in the other, ready to share some encouragement with those I’d meet. I spotted an older model SUV parked on the side of the road, and I walked right up to the open passenger window, fully prepared to hand over a few gifts of God’s love. But what I didn’t anticipate was the reaction! 11/13/2024 10:04 AM
How can you plan for incapacity?
How can you plan for incapacity?
We all hope to enjoy long, healthy lives, retaining the ability to think clearly and make our own decisions. But life doesn’t always work out that way — which is why you need to prepare for a potential incapacity that could affect your independence and possibly create financial problems for your family. 11/13/2024 10:04 AM
Heal the Divide
Heal the Divide
Unless you’ve been living on another planet, you are undoubtedly aware there was a presidential election in the United States last week. Many are elated at the outcome. Many are despondent to the point of leaving the country. However you want to describe it, there is a deep divide in our country. How do we get past all the hateful rhetoric and animosity in order to heal? That is the big question. It seems many expected the election to “fix” our nation’s problems instantly like turning on/off a light switch. 11/13/2024 10:03 AM
Straightest Path is a Circle
Straightest Path is a Circle
A gift of cash (enough to make a difference) was quietly given to me, with the idea that I might pass it on to someone who needs it or help someone. This little mom with three children endured a hard season when their home burned down, a rental, but needless to say, they were without a place to stay. So they’d spent these past months trying to save for a deposit, and I’d heard she’d found a new home to rent. The mom also received a new battery for her car, thanks to another dear couple, and she’s now been blessed with a job. But the challenges still loomed, and I could see how this gift might bring relief. 11/06/2024 10:02 AM

Who is my Neighbor?
Who is my Neighbor?
Growing up, it was pretty easy to identify who your neighbor was. People rarely moved, so learning everyone in a 2-3 block radius was pretty easy. I would grow up with kids, know their siblings, parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Then you had neighbors from your church and parents would know people they worked with. Today we are not afforded that luxury. 11/06/2024 10:02 AM
Truly fearfully and wonderfully made
Truly fearfully and wonderfully made
When a new baby comes into the world it is always a miracle, and always a blessing from above. Speaking as a father and a “Grandy” to three grandchildren, there has never been more joyful days in my life than the days each of my children and grands entered the world. 10/30/2024 09:02 AM
Double Trouble / Double the Fun
Double Trouble / Double the Fun
On the first day of school, I was six years old. I fainted right there on the porch of that old school building and somehow tumbled behind a hedge. For a few chaotic moments, I was officially “missing.” Turns out I forgot to breathe. Yep—lesson number one in life: breathing matters! 10/30/2024 09:02 AM

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (NKJV) I want to dedicate this devotion to my mom & mother-in-law because this verse is their favorite scripture. Proverbs 3:5-6 are some of the most powerful and popular scriptures in the Bible. These life altering verses can be broken into four parts: Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. 10/30/2024 09:01 AM

Nights to never forget
Nights to never forget
Life can often be very hard. Sometimes it is harder than we believe we can take. Then there are the times of absolute beauty and happiness. Every now and then we have the rare opportunity to see the two intertwine. This past week, I did. 10/23/2024 09:01 AM
Write Hope with a Story
Write Hope with a Story
At a recent trade show in Paris, Texas, I explained my love for words and discussed details about some of the 28 books I’ve written with a mother of two girls, who bought several copies. One of the girls, who must have been seven or thereabout, exclaimed, “You wrote all of these books?” Before I could answer, she shook her head and replied, “Doesn’t your head hurt?” 10/23/2024 09:01 AM
