Nothing but the Truth
I am drawn to true crime, who-done-it, criminal profiling stories. Just call me Detective Debby. As crimes are solved and the case goes to trial, the same line is repeated, “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?” After umpteen gillion shows, it occurred to me recently how hard it is for people to tell what the truth really is.

Spaghetti Sauce Kindness
I don’t usually carry fear when I hit the streets for ministry. But that day, fear caught me off guard for just a few seconds. My heart sped up as an SUV abruptly stopped in the middle of the road, where my homeless friends and I were laughing and soaking up the sunshine—which felt as comforting as warm spaghetti sauce over pasta.

Communication is key-Your voice is needed
Sometimes in doing what we do we get to see issues arise that are glaringly important. Sometimes those issues transcend the local community and are such that they impact us, as well as the entire state.

Of Pedaling and Prayer
The homeless man straddling his bike sighed deeply, shaking his head. “I can’t breathe today. I stopped living when he died.”

In an Instant
Here I was, settled in for a quiet morning with pups in the house beside me. A cloudy morning with a few showers. Yes, I was aware of the potential for severe thunderstorms. Then, as I was watching one of my favorite shows, the lights went out. It was pitch black outside and rain fell as thick as pea-soup. Suddenly, hurricane force winds hit and I thought “this is it!” Within a minute or two the storm passed, generator back-up kicked in, I let out a sigh of relief, and I thanked the good Lord for sparing us. What I didn’t realize was the devastation awaiting us outside.

Sweetness of the day awaits
I remember how my older son, Marty, loved to crawl and climb as a baby. He used to climb out of his crib at the end, make a leaping monkey jump to the dresser—a mere foot away—and then use the knobs on the drawers to descend to the floor. It wasn’t just acrobatics but an early sign of his adventurous spirit.

What Wikipedia Can’t Tell You
I grew up in Dallas. As a youngster, I thought my home was merely the few square blocks surrounding our house. As I grew older, my world expanded to a much larger metroplex, state, entire nation, and other parts of the world. For the longest time I considered Dallas as my “home.” Then we moved.

Looking for the good in life
Guy Stuff has been taking a break for the last few weeks while making room for some great information on shopping locally from my friend Lee Elliott and the New Boston SIDC. Man, that is some good stuff. I hope you read the last three editorial pieces from Lee and I hope you see even better the advantage to shopping locally. Spending our dollars at home helps all of us have a better place to call home, wherever that home might be.
