The New Boston Lions held youth camps this week starting on Monday morning for young people from 3rd through 8th grade. Camps included instruction in volleyball, football, basketball and softball for boys and girls who hope to one day be future high school athletes.

New Boston Youth have fun with Fitness Boot Camp
The New Boston Youth Sports Association hosted a Fitness Boot Camp on Sunday as a means to keep kids active and healthy during the summer break. The Boot Camp will be held at Lions Stadium every Sunday evening during the summer, weather permitting. It is a free event and is for children in 3rd through 6th grade.

Redwater junior Kiley Harrrison received two awards from the Lone Star Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution last week. She was presented the awards for her artwork in the Junior American Citizens’ Art and Creative Expression Contest Through the JAC Committee, the DAR sponsors the contest each school year. The contest includes the following categories: poster, stamp design, digital design, digital art, poetry, short story and other categories. It is a local and national contest.

TThe National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) today announced student Viola G. Lalugba from Wylie, TX, has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization. The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. The announcement was made by NSHSS Co-founder and President James W. Lewis. “On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion and commitment that Viola has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said Lewis. “Viola is now a member of a unique community of scholars – a community that represents our very best hope for the future.” “We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development,” stated Lewis. “We help students like Viola build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.” NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership.
