Juneteenth celebration returns to New Boston
The Juneteenth Organization of New Boston will host its annual Juneteenth event at T&P Trailhead Park on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15. Juneteenth, formally known as “Freedom Day”, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the emancipation of slavery in Texas in 1865. On this day, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston to order freedom for the enslaved people of the state — two months after the Confederacy surrendered in the Civil War.

A&M-Texarkana Celebrates Spring Graduates with 101st. Commencement
Texas A&M University- Texarkana celebrated its spring 2024 graduating class during two commencement exercises on May 11, 2024. Family, friends, faculty, staff, and university administration gathered in the gymnasium of the Lois & Cary Patterson Student Center for the ceremonies. The university graduated 259 students this semester from all academic levels- undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral.

Life’s Ride on a Dirt Bike
In California, I experienced a one-time event of soaring off a mountain on a dirt bike and into a ravine; I was barely out of college, young, and anticipating my future. However, that day, my world flashed out of control. And I thought my life might end when I’d taken the seat on the dirt bike when courage (or, in my case, a little insanity) played out, as I’d never ridden a dirt bike alone in my life. Somehow, I’d convinced my friends on our camping trip I could maneuver the motorcycle up the mountain trail.
