Lady Hornets, Lady Pirates earn district championships
Two local teams claimed district championships Friday night as the Hooks Lady Hornets stung the Redwater Lady Dragons by a final score of 72-8 in a game that saw Hooks leading 43-0 at the halftime break.

The DeKalb Bears
The DeKalb Bears hosted Redwater last Friday night with the Dragons earning the win in the varsity boys game and the Lady Bears overpowering the Lady Dragons in the girls contest. The Dragons and Bears put on a show for the fans as their nail-biter came down to the final seconds with Redwater making some clutch free throws in the end to secure a 59-53 win. In the girls matchup, the Lady Bears held onto their 3rd spot in the district standings with a 75-24 win. The Lady Bears will finish their district season with a Friday game against Queen City and then the finale next Tuesday with a home game against Hooks.

Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Toyota ShareLunker program archives are bustling with big bass records dating back nearly four decades. Through mid-December, the popular spawning and genetics research program had taken in 3,856 entries between 8 and 18.18 pounds. It’s an impressive list representing 175 different public reservoirs, several private lakes and an army of anglers who have participated since the program’s inception in 1986.
