Betty Lou Bilimek, age 80 of Maud died Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in a local Hospice Facility. Betty was born March 6, 1945 in Middle Point, Van Wert County, Ohio to the late Homer and Mary (Halter) Beair. On June 6, 1964 she married Robert Lee Bilimek, Sr., he survives in Maud, Texas.

Northeast Texans travel to Austin to voice their opposition to eminent domain land grab of proposed Marvin Nichols
House Bill 2109, authored by House District 1 Representative Gary VanDeaver, was heard in the House Natural Resources Committee last week, with many from Northeast Texas making the trek to Austin and waiting all day for their turn at the podium to voice their opinion. Hundreds of Northeast Texans have also submitted written public comment on HB 2109.

Low interest disaster loans available for multiple East Texas counties
Loans with low interest are now being offered for numerous East Texas counties affected by recent natural disasters, made available by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). These loans will be for small businesses, nonprofits, and residents who suffered physical damage and economic loss from the recent storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes that happened on April 4. The SBA issued a disaster declaration in response to a request received from Texas Governor Greg Abbott on April 17.

Redwater student showcases talent at Art Month Exhibition
Redwater Junior High 8th grade student, Ashlin McRight, had her artwork selected to be part of the 2024-2025 Texas Art Education Association’s Youth Art Month Exhibition. This exhibition showcases Pre-K through 12th grade student works of art from across the state of Texas at the Bullock Texas State History Museum during the month of March for Youth Art Month. The exhibit is featured on their website.
